Finding the best organic multivitamin can be a daunting task. With each product boasting a seemingly endless list of good-sounding ingredients, which is the best? Which multivitamin includes all that you need without overdoing it? Here we will discuss what vitamin blend you really need each and every day, so you know what to look for in your organic multivitamins. We will also review some of the best organic vitamins on the market, ending with our top recommendation for both men and women.
Finding the Best Organic Multivitamin
What to Look For
The best organic multivitamin is better for your body than the typical conventional type because it is not sourced using chemicals. But when looking for the best, be sure to note the derivations of each of the vitamins. Are they sourced from whole foods and superfoods? It is so important to read the ingredients to be sure a product labeled as organic or all-natural really is! If the ingredients list includes a word you don’t know, look it up! There is a huge possibility that it is fake or sourced from synthetic materials. As a rule of thumb, words that end with -ate, -ite, and -ide are usually good to stay away from when looking for the best in organic whole food products.
Next, look for the best organic multivitamin for your age and situation. Like it or not, there are different vitamin requirements for men than there are for women. There are also variances in vitamin requirements once you reach a certain age, or if you’re looking for the best vitamin for your children. A pregnant woman should check with her physician to determine the best pre- and post-natal multivitamin to take. We’ll look at the best organic multivitamin for average women and men in just a moment.
Keep in mind that most multivitamins are just an extra layer of protection if you are living a healthy, vegan organic lifestyle that includes lots of fresh organic fruits and vegetables. Pair that with an outstanding vegan organic protein, purely fresh water, and regular exercise, and you are good to go!
The last thing to consider when choosing the best organic multivitamin is how often you will have to take it. Some whole food vitamins require that you take multiple vitamins, multiple times a day. Well that isn’t any fun! The best organic multivitamin will not only taste great but be easy to take, and easy to remember to take! Read on to find the best organic multivitamin for women (vegan too!) followed by the best for men!
Best Multivitamin for Women
When selecting a multivitamin for women, you will need to know what specific vitamins are necessary to keep a woman’s hormonal balance and nutrition at optimal levels. Calcium, iron, magnesium, iodine and folate are extremely important for women. *Note that folic acid is an extremely important vitamin for a pre-natal woman, but is really just the synthetic version of folate! Of the lettered vitamins, be sure to get A, B, C, D, E and K.
So let’s take a look at some of the top-selling “whole-food” and “all-natural” women’s multivitamins out there, ranked one through five below:
The 5 best organic vegan multivitamins for women:
5. Nature’s Way: Alive! Once Daily Women’s Ultra Potency
This product received only two out of five stars in our rating. First, only one pill per serving, which definitely makes me a happy camper! But the first red flag went up upon reading what it “does not” contain: wheat grain. What about gluten or other wheat parts? It also does not mention anything about organic or vegan. It contained a lot of -ide, and -ate ingredients, leading me to believe it isn’t as whole-food and all-natural as the product packing would lead one to believe. It’s vitamin profile held nothing compared to the next four types we reviewed and I was nauseous over the long list of “other ingredients.” Don’t get me started.
4. Rainbow Light Nutritional Systems – Women’s One Multivitamin
Next we have the Rainbow Light brand product, one that claims to be the top-selling whole food supplement out there. Well only three stars from us, and wait until you get to our number 2 and number 1 picks. There will be five stars awarded!
The best thing about this pick is that you really only need one vitamin a day to “keep the doctor away.” Bonus. But unfortunately this product does include folic acid, which we know from reading above is synthetically derived. It does include a whole food blend, but not all of that is organic. This is a pretty big problem for us, but not nearly as bad as the other ingredients list. WOW! Almost as disgusting as our previous product. . . thankfully the next is a lot cleaner when it comes to additional ingredients!
3. plnt: pure living naturally true – Whole Food Women’s Multivitamin
Sounds good right? Especially when you read that they leave the “a” out of “plant” to represent the missing artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors and preservatives. Catchy! But a serving size for this type is four whole pills, which is just one too many for our taste. Next, they don’t mention where some of their vitamins are derived from (C for example). They also show little boast of exceptional amounts of essentials. And while their ingredients really are pretty clean overall, it includes organic rice hull, which is really just an unnecessary filler. So OK, maybe 3.5 out of 5 stars. . .
2. Garden of Life: My Kind Organics – Women’s Multivitamin
We have to be honest in saying that we were really hoping this product would win the basket. My Kind Organics is favored because it is USDA certified organic and therefore also GMO-Free. You can’t go wrong! Well, maybe. . .
A serving size for this brand is 2 tablets, which is not bad. One of the best things about this one is that it clearly lists next to each essential where it comes from. Example: folate (not folic acid again!) from organic lemon. Bingo! But what ultimately lost this brand one star was those pesky “other ingredients” again. Can you believe it? The list goes on to include things like organic potato starch, organic tapioca maltodextrin and dextrose, organic sunflower lecithin, etc. All things that are organic but an organic cheeseburger is still a cheeseburger. And those extra added ingredients, even in a coating, have to go.
Which brings us to the #1 Best Organic Multivitamin (for Women).
And the winner is. . . .
1. Sunwarrior Raw Vitamins for Her
Not only is this product label very clear and easy to read, every essential is sourced from plants with only one other ingredient. Kosher vegetable gelatin can have a pass in this case! Though not certified organic, 19 of it’s 22 essentials are sourced from organic plants. This type also includes potassium and trace minerals. It also includes a probiotic blend, longevity blend, and enzyme blend, all good things! This multivitamin is packed with energizing B vitamins that are really sometimes hard to get in, even with a plant based vegan organic diet. And the only minerals that seem to be lacking in this product are ones very easily sourced from plants in your daily salad greens: selenium and iodine.
Sunwarrior Raw Vitamins for Her are our number one pick for an organic women’s multivitamin. Just have one at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Very easy to incorporate into your day, and you’ll really start to feel the difference!
Best Multivitamin for Men
After reviewing the most popular choices of vegan organic multivitamins for women, you can be sure the men’s variety is just about in the same camp. So we’re just going to cut to the chase:
1. Sunwarrior Raw Vitamins for Men
The Sunwarrior Multivitamin for Men boasts all the same benefits of the same for women. At first glance the vitamins look to be exactly the same. The only difference is that the women’s type includes the necessary addition of iron.
So, if you’re looking for the best organic multivitamin out there, you’ve come to the right place! Be sure to scour the ingredients label and be sure something certified or marked as organic actually is what it says, without any added ingredients! Like we’ve already said, an organic cheeseburger is still a cheeseburger.
